PROJECT OVERVIEW

As Bethel’s primary first-year residence hall since 1950, Haury Hall shapes the earliest and most formative experiences of every student who enters the college. The building anchors campus life, community building, and student retention, yet its age now limits its ability to meet the expectations of today’s learners. The renovation of Haury Hall represents a transformational investment in the student experience—modernizing living spaces while honoring one of Bethel’s most historic and meaningful campus landmarks.

WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS

Research consistently shows that a student’s first year plays a decisive role in long-term success, sense of belonging, and graduation outcomes. Haury Hall is central to that transition at Bethel. A fully renovated facility will provide safe, comfortable, community-oriented housing that fosters academic focus, social connection, and overall well-being. Modern amenities and functionality will allow Bethel to remain competitive in an environment where residential quality strongly influences recruitment and retention.

A COMPREHENSIVE RENOVATION WILL:

  • Reimagine community spaces to strengthen connection and belonging
  • Modernize rooms, restrooms, heating and cooling systems, and accessibility features
  • Create flexible study and gathering spaces that support academic success
  • Align the building with contemporary standards for energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Ensure Haury Hall remains a vibrant, functional first-year home for decades to come
  • Improve safety, lighting, and overall environmental quality

TIMELINE

Planning and early-stage architectural work will begin during the campaign period. Renovation phases are anticipated to start in 2026, with final completion aligned to minimize disruption to student housing cycles.
